I am wondering if I can get a legal advice as to what I should do,I had to leave Canada Last August 2008,and during the rush of having to leave I asked around all my friends for who can take care of my Cat and the house,a dear friend of mine offered to look after both,in return I asked her to only pay me for the house what she was paying for the basment appartment she was renting, and since I left, she only paid me 2 months and then she got married and her husband moved in,and till now I got no money what so ever,I keep asking them to leave the house but her husband refused and keep promosing money that never gets paid.what can I do when I am returning to Canada on June and I am already out of all what I had to pay since they moved it,I paid utilities even the internet that I asked Rogers to cut but they wouldn't.
I need to know what is my right??

At court you can sue for up to one months pay per year of service depending on your personal details. If you're younger, you lose a week, if you're not middle management, you may lose another. It would also be based on your average monthly part-time wages. Even at $10 per hour, you'd only be suing for $600 and this based on the full months pay per year. Additional damages may include bad faith conduct or provable mental distress. No, not likely a lawyer will assist with this and you also have to take into consideration paying out legal fees to a paralegal. But, it's your money and employers need to be held accountable. Good luck!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I've been a tenant of a condo starting from September 5, 2007 untill April 4, 2008. I have paid a rent and a Last Month Rent deposit. In addition, at the time of signing the contract I have been forced to pay 500$ as a "security deposit" (landlord's receipts available). Now after I left the premises the landlord did not return my 500$. He was hiding from me during my last few days of staying in the appartment (as he knew I was going to leave the country), he answered my phone call only once on my last day and told me a stories about his mother being sick in another city, 300 km away and he had to drive there, and promised to bring me money to airport, then he promised to one of my friend whom I left the keys to pay me back my deposit electronically by wire transfer. I have sent him e-mail after 2 weeks - he never replied. I called him after another 2 weeks, he started telling me stories that he had to clean the carpet, repair the blinds etc. I requested him to give me the list of deductions he is going to make - he refused.
After making some researches in the Internet, I found out:
1. It is illegal to take any deposits exept last month rent
2. Landlord is supposed to pay interest on L.M.R. amount
3. I have full rights to sue the landlord over my 500$ so called "security deposit"

The problem is I do not stay in Canada anymore, I currently live in Dubai, UAE, although it wouldn't be difficult for me to come to Canada to attend the hearing (provided I can claim travel expences towards the defendant as well)

Would be grateful for any help or advice.

Respectfully yours,

Dr. Kopach.

searching for legal direction in an employment issue as I was fired from my part-time(10 hours/week) employment without just cause.I was wrongfully dismissed given absolutely no explanation for this action taken against me.I can only assume it was because I asked to come in later than my usual start time, for one day.At my repeated request,I received my ROE and holiday pay(of which remains un-cashed).I have been an excellent employee working at this position for 1 and 1/2 years. I am of the opinion that I can sue for a year's wages, therefore, I don't believe a lawyer would represent me for such a small claim.Looking for any advice in order to improve my well-being.
